The island of Tabarca, located off the coast of Alicante, is currently without a permanent firefighter presence due to the start of the regular firefighter’s vacation period. This circumstance, scheduled for in the shift schedule, occurs in the middle of the summer season, a time when the island sees its highest influx of visitors.
Temporary coverage from Alicante
While this situation persists, any intervention by the Fire Prevention, Extinction, and Rescue Service (SPEIS) will be managed from the Alicante fire station, with boat transfers to the island if necessary. This protocol is part of the standard response mechanisms for any incident when there is no permanent fire crew in Tabarca.
A specific situation in high season
During the summer, Tabarca receives hundreds of tourists every day who come to enjoy its beaches, natural surroundings, and gastronomic offerings. The occasional absence of the checkpoint coincides with this increased influx, although local authorities maintain the emergency protocols for these types of scenarios.
Pending service reactivation
The crew is expected to return to the island after the assigned vacation period, thus restoring normal service. In the meantime, a response from the mainland is guaranteed for any incidents that may occur.
